Neon Sign Issues We Fix
Gas depletion, electrode deterioration, or transformer issues cause neon tubes to flicker, dim unevenly, or pulse. Often mistaken for a dying sign when the fix may be straightforward.
Neon transformers convert standard voltage to the high voltage needed to excite neon gas. When they fail, entire sections go dark. They can also buzz loudly or overheat before complete failure.
Physical impact, vibration, thermal stress, or age can crack glass neon tubes. Once cracked, the gas escapes and the tube goes dark. Tubes near doors or in high-vibration areas are most vulnerable.
Over time, neon gas depletes and phosphor coatings on tube interiors degrade, causing colors to fade or shift. A red tube might turn pink, or a blue tube might become washed out.
Electrodes at each end of a neon tube have a limited lifespan. When they burn out, the tube cannot ignite the gas. This is normal wear after 8-15 years of continuous operation.
Neon tubes are fragile glass mounted on exterior walls. Wind, building vibration, and aging mounts can loosen tubes, stress connections, and eventually cause breakage.
